What changes
On two naps, a 7:00 am to 7:30 pm day has awake stretches of 3 hr, 3 hr 20 min, 3 hr 40 min. On one 2-hour nap from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm they become 4 hr 40 min, 5 hr 20 min. The morning nap disappears and the afternoon nap moves up to midday.
The long morning
One nap means a long morning. An earlier wake-up or bedtime moves the nap with it: type different times in the second sentence and the nap refits, keeping both awake stretches in proportion.
Toddlers and the clock change
From age one the plan moves 30 minutes a night, so a toddler needs two nights for a one-hour change. See daylight saving time for toddlers.
Questions parents ask next
When do toddlers go from 2 naps to 1?
Usually between about 12 and 17 months. The planner uses two naps up to 14 months and one from 15 months.
What time should the one nap be?
Around midday. From a 7:00 am start with a 7:00 pm bedtime, the planner puts it at 11:40 am, for about 2 hours.
How long is a toddler awake on one nap?
Typically 4½ to 5½ hours before the nap, and about the same after it.
Can I get nap reminders?
Yes. Add to my calendar saves two weeks of nap and bedtime reminders, 30 minutes ahead.
